What with Google Mail (Gmail to the rest of the world) having one of the best webmail interfaces available today, you may be bemoaning the fact that you can’t enjoy that lovely Ajaxy goodness to send and receive emails using your own domain name email addresses.
Except that you can.
It doesn’t even take that much fiddling. You can easily set up Google Mail to make all your sent mail (or just some of it) come from yourname@yourdomain.com:
- Log in to your Google Mail account.
- Click Settings along the top of any page and select the Accounts tab.
- Click Add another email address in the Send mail as section.
- Enter your full name in the Name field and the email address that you would like to send messages from in the Email address field.
- Click Next Step >> and then click Send Verification to complete the process. Google Mail will send a verification message to your other email address to confirm that you would like to add it to your Google Mail account. To complete the process, you will need to click on the link in that message or enter the confirmation code in the Accounts section of your Google Mail account. Once you’ve verified that you’d like to add the address to your account, you can start sending messages using your custom ‘From:’ address. - Google Mail Help Centre
Easy. Then, just set up yourname@yourdomain.com to forward to your Google Mail account, and you’re all set. Your own domain email addresses, and a beautiful webmail interface - what more could you want?
You can set up as many email addresses to do this as you like. You can also choose to set ‘Reply To:’ addresses, and tell Google Mail that you want to always send replies from the address to which the original emails were sent (so if someone emails yourname@yourdomain.com, Google Mail will automatically send replies to that email using that address).
