Well myspace.co.uk has been around longer than you think. Everyone and their dog at some-point has had a myspace account however myspace.co.uk has only recently been acquired by the real myspace.
Six years before myspace existed myspace.co.uk was a parking page for adverts and links to social networking sites including myspace.com. The domain name holder Total Web Solutions (TWS) of Stockport registered it in 1997 and used the address to offer mini websites to subscribers and email services. It said that although it no longer offers the mini websites it still provides email services to 18 subscribers at the address.
The arbitrator found, though, that it had changed the way that it used the address, subscribing to a system which put keyword-related adverts on to the page. Those ads related to MySpace.com and to social networking, meaning that TWS was profiting unfairly from its association with MySpace. I personally hope they do the same with Myspace itself and force it to close but that’s just my view.
