Ah, Google - always making shiny new things for us to play with. Google Page Creator is just such a shiny thing, although it’s not particularly new; it’s been around for quite a while, but typically of Google, it’s still in Beta after well over a year in existence.
Of course, that means that it’s a bit of a mystery as to what Google’s grand plan is for it, if there even is one. At the moment, it looks more like an experiment in web application technology than a serious project. However, 100MB of free storage space, as well as a rather nice interface for designing pages and adding content, makes the Page Creator much more than an amusing diversion. What’s to stop you from using that free space to upload Flash files, videos, music, and goodness knows what else, and then linking to it from elsewhere? Nothing, that’s what. You can have up to five different domains, as well, the first one using your email address as the domain.
Anyway, what I’m hoping is that they’re going to offer a package which lets you edit CSS, HTML and JavaScript more comprehensively, as well as some basic design editing available to non-technical users, blog-style. I wouldn’t mind paying for it if it was any good; perhaps they could offer it to paid Google Mail users to start with. Also, of course, I’d want to be able to use my own domain name. No one is going to use something like myemailaddress.googlepages.com for any professional purposes.
