A catchy name in my view , Domain Pulse is over for this year having been held in Austria (Vienna) 21 and 22 February. Folks from all over the world flocked to Vienna for day one of event (350 from Russia). Key issues being raised were DNS, security issues and the role of ICANN.
The best quote to come out of day one was on the conspiracy stories that appear about ICANN were deemed to be rather amusing as “the only conspiracy can involve two people, as if three people know about something in DC, then one will tell someone! But there’s not a lot you can do with a conspiracy of two people!”
Day two kicked off with online security issues and then the drama of the famous sex.com. (incidentally Stephen Cohen who is forced to pay Gary Kremen has fled to Mexico and lives in Exile (so not the Bahamas eh) . Phishing was a big issue and the legal position of domain registrars when domain names are used for illicit or illegal purposes.
IPv4 addresses and the lack of them was a big talking point and the new IPv6 addresses and their incompatibility with IPv4 . The close of Domain Pulse 2008 was marked by the presentation of a huge birthday cake and the handing over of power to next years host.
Next years Pulse ! takes place in Dresden (Germany) February 12/13 2009 . Anyone up for a trip ?.
